New technologies and consultancy

One of the main objectives of LABD’s research efforts is to give new ideas to the lead-acid battery industry so that the latter can meet the new requirements and the challenges of the rapidly developing high-tech systems for different applications. LABD has acted as partner in a number of international projects within the 5th and 6th European RTP frameworks as well as within of ALABC and EALABC programmes.

During its 40 years of experience LABD has developed many technological innovations most of which implemented in the production processes of battery companies in Bulgaria and abroad.

Specialists of LABD-IEES (CLEPS) have gained a profound fundamental knowledge and research experience in the field of electrochemistry of the lead-acid battery system and on the processes during manufacture and operation of different types of lead-acid batteries, including flooded traction, SLI and stationary batteries, as well as valve-regulated lead-acid batteries with AGM separators.

Based on this knowledge, the Department of Lead-Acid Batteries can provide consultancy on battery technology and give recommendations related to optimisation of the technology of battery manufacture, as well as to solving specific technological problems.
